River Wid Flood Storage Scheme
The Environment Agency was proposing a 500m long earth embankment to form a dam across the Wid valley bottom. The intention was to create a flood storage area to protect areas downstream in Chelmsford. The farming land owner was concerned about the effect this would have on their land and local environment. Nigel Cowlin Ltd was appointed to review the Landscape and Visual Issues Chapter of the Environmental Statement for the proposal. This involved review of methodology and findings by way of independent assessment work, including production of photowire images to assist with visualising the appearance of the dam.
This study provided an alternative view on the impacts of the proposal on the character and appearance of the rural valley scene, including views from the nearby Essex Way. The scheme has not been implemented.
