Fairfield Farm Biogas Plant

A farm based biogas digester to provide gas into the national grid. In this instance the associated farm business produces large quantities of potato peel waste and other vegetable waste. Their own biogas digester would economically recycle this waste. For this project Nigel Cowlin Ltd provided landscape and visual issues feasibility advice, followed by Landscape and Visual Appraisal reporting for the final scheme and mitigation landscape proposals. Viewpoint photographs were also provided with approximate photowire overlays of the proposed development.

The digester was proposed in a location set alongside the existing farm business buildings to minimise any alterations to the character and appearance of the rural location. This is all set within the edges of a disused airfield and with some modest mitigation planting the scheme resulted in very limited landscape and visual impact. Planning permission was accordingly granted and the development is now completed and operational.
