For this project initial work included landscape and visual appraisal pre-planning advice on siting opportunities and constraints. This is an attractive village edge location where sensitive planning and design would be critical. Further work included full Landscape & Visual Appraisal reporting to accompany a planning application for 35 dwellings and later a reduced scheme for 22 dwellings. Both schemes also included a pre-school facility. Both schemes were refused by the local council, but Nigel Cowlin provided ongoing specialist services during the appeal process and hearing.

Detailed analysis of the visual effects and characteristics of the area, together with step by step review of the Council's stance, provided a convincing case and the appeal was successful. The inspector found that the layout 'would be consistent with the linear settlement pattern of the village'.
