Commission included preparation of a landscape strategy to support the Outline Planning application for the development and subsequently reserved matters / condition discharge / construction pack / detailed hard & soft landscape proposals. The development was for 140 dwellings and associated open spaces incorporating play sites and surface water drainage features.

The most interesting aspect was a 'village green' space incorporating a drainage attenuation pond. This was envisaged as a traditional village pond with a body of permanent water, marginal areas to accommodate flood water and a dipping platform. It was also designed to have a raised overlooking edge from an adjacent estate road. Successful design of this feature required close multidisciplinary collaboration.

For the housing areas, the landscape scheme included garden walling and hedges to define front gardens and create a distinctive yet local character for the streets. A good complement of tree planting and a simple modern planting palette completed the scheme.
