Thorney Green Road

Our initial commission provided early LVA desk and field study input to the design process. This was key to the success of the project as it was a sensitive location expanding on the edge of an attractive Suffolk village and in relative proximity to the neighbouring town. The LVA input included an outline development strategy aimed at producing a development reflecting the distinctive characteristics of this as a village formed around strip greens, as well as protecting against any perception that the development would be closing the gap between the settlements.

The application was refused with harms cited to character and appearance of the area, as well as unacceptable compromise to separation of settlements. The client made an appeal against this decision and we successfully defended the findings of our LVA during an informal hearing.

With success at appeal the site was sold on, but we were retained as part of the team tasked with developing Reserved Matters proposals.

We provided a suite of landscape proposal drawings including an overall site masterplan giving presentation of the treatments for a range of open spaces to be provided as part of the scheme. This included woodland areas, meadows, play space, surface water drainage features, and a community orchard. All of which formed components within an interconnected series of open spaces providing amenities and an attractive framework embedding the development into the rural setting.
