Nigel acted as the landscape and visual issues expert witness for the appellant at a planning appeal informal hearing.

A principal consideration in this case was the degree to which the proposed development would affect the perception of a gap between the edge of Witham and the nearby village of Rivenhall. This was of heightened concern because much of the gap between these two settlements is designated in the Braintree Local Plan as a 'Green Buffer' with the express aim of preventing coalescence between settlements. Nigel managed to demonstrate that there would be no material impact on the normal perception of the gap between settlements. The appeal was allowed.
